Pick Week


The prize winning exhibits of the 11th Hindustan Times Cartoon Contest, 1997, will be on display from August 21 to August 31, 1997, at Bajaj Art Gallery, Nariman Point. Launched to promote the art of cartooning, it was initially confined to Delhi. This year people from nine cities participated in a competition that is open to amateurs alone. Held in two sections, viz, carictures and cartoons (the theme was 50 years of Indian Independence), the contest was judged, in Delhi, by a panel of well known personalities like, Abu Abraham, M S Gill, Govind Nihalani, Mallika Sarabhai and Sudhir Tailang.The exhibition is on from 1.00 pm to 7.00 pm everyday.

Last week, during the NCPA Independence festival, a book on Bharat Natyam by Dr Sunil Kothari was released by Kalanidhi Narayanan. Guru T K Mahalingam was felicitated on the occasion and Narayanan performed an abhinaya to a padam that evening.
