BRISTOL: Glamorgan off-spinner Robert Croft and Essex paceman Mark Ilott were handed two-match suspended bans yesterday after clashing in a tense Netwest trophy semifinal last week.

England players Croft and Ilott were involved in a shoving match in the middle of the pitch after Ilott successfully appealed against the light at Chelmsford last Tuesday.

Haile's challenge

ADDIS ABABA: Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie has challenged the organisers of the Brussels Grand Prix to include him in the field when Kenyan World champion Daniel Komen attempts the 5,000 metres world record on Friday.

In an interview today, Gebrselassie said he had been entered in the 3,000 metres in Brussels, while he wanted to run in the 5,000 metres.

Uefa penalty

NYON: UEFA has announced that it had changed Paris Saint Germain's 3-2 Champions Cup loss to Steaua Bucharest to a 3-0 defeat by default because the French team fielded a suspended player.

PSG didn't realise that defender Laurent Founier was ineligible for the August 13 game in Bucharest having received a yellow card in last season's Cup Winners Cup final against Barcelona in Rotterdam.

Uefa said yesterday that the French club must win the return leg of the qualifying round by four clear goals to advance.

Fournier also is suspended for the second leg.
