Crimewatch -- Warning to motorists
The city police have warned all motorists to check whether the darkness of glasses of their car windows is in accordance with the provisions of law. The rule 100 (2) of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules of 1989 says that the glass of the wind screen and rear window of every motor vehicle shall be such that the visual transmission of light is not less than 70 per cent. A press note issued by joint commissioner of police (law and order) Charan Singh Azad said that the police would be launching a special drive to check window glasses. This would also be checked during naka bandis. The police said that the rule was in the interest of the safety of vehicle owners, particularly while driving at night. The vehicle owners can get the visibility percentage confirmed from the shops selling the dark glasses or dark films being pasted on the glasses. One stabbed n IN a gruesome accident on Tuesday night, the 36 year-old owner of a jewellery store at Ulhasnagar was stabbed to death. Four armed robbers allegedly forced their way into the shop situated at the main market on Tuesday night. Lulla tried to foil the robbery, following which he was assaulted by choppers. He sustained multiple injuries on the head, chest and the abdomen, and was declared dead on arrival by the hospital. Two of the robbers fled the scene in a waiting Maruti van. One of the robbers has been arrested. Gold seized A gang of chain snatchers has been nabbed and jewellery collectively valued at Rs 1,25,000 was recovered from them. The gang was operating in the city and Thane district. The modus operandi was to visit crowded places with their wives and cut the victims chain after pushing the crowd violently.
