PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NEW DELHI, May 30: A 19-year old Indian has been declared a fugitive criminal and lodged in Tihar jail here awaiting the government's decision to deport him to United States of America to face trial for breaking into vehicles and stealing credit cards and car stereos two years back.

Extradition Magistrate V K Bansal recently recommended to the Central government that it extradite Ginny Singh, to the US and ordered that he be ``detained at Central Jail, Tihar, awaiting a decision by the Central government.''

The US embassy here sent a request to the Ministry of External Affairs on August 30, 1996, for extradition of Singh, who is wanted in US to stand trial for violation of the Californian penal code for burglary and receiving stolen property. Singh was arrested by the Californian Police on October 21, 1995, while attempting to remove a stereo from a vehicle.
