Mumbai Notes -- Gherao planned against PM

Prime Minister of India I K Gujral who is arriving here on Saturday will be gheraoed by hundreds of office bearers and workers of Maharashtra Minorities Front (MMF). The MMF has demanded that persons imprisoned under TADA should be released immediately. It has also demanded that those involved in the demolition of Babri masjid should be punished and the masjid should be reconstructed in the same place. Water cut According to a press release issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation water supply to A, C, D, G-South and G-North wards will be marginally affected from May 29 to May 31, 1997. This was necessary since repair work was being carried out due to a leak on the 2500 mm main near Bandra station. Sardari Begum Sardari Begum, directed by Shyam Benegal, has been invited to participate in the 14th Jerusalem Film festival which will be held between July 10-19 at the Jerusalem Cinematheque. This film created quite a stir in India and abroad with its brilliant story-line and music. The film which has already bagged three national awards, has been selected for the Moscow Festival and the Filmest Munchen (Germany). MSEB awarded The central government has awarded incentive awards of Rs 83.98 lakh to all thermal power stations of Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) for better performance and Rs 3.33 lakhs for reducing transmission and distribution losses. These awards were received by the chairman, MSEB, P L Gajaralwar along with chief engineers of the power stations by Union energy minister at New Delhi. MSEB is the only state electricity board in the country that has ever won seven awards in single year. Farewell function At an impressive function held at Training Ship Chanakya on annual prize day function held on Thursday, the 8th batch of Nautical Sciences graduates bid farewell to their two wards on completion of their three-year degree course. Dr Snehlata Deshmukh, the vice-chancellor of Mumbai University who was the chief guest of the function exhorted the young cadets to keep up the high traditions of the Indian Mariners.
