Quicktakes -- Medha allegedly beaten up


PUNE: Noted environmentalist Medha Patkar, who was arrested by the Mangaon police in Raigad district on Thursday, was released on bail on Friday evening. A National Alliance of Peoples Movement Spokesman alleged that Patkar was brutally beaten by plain-clothesmen while arresting them.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday stayed operation of commissioner of Income-Tax notification of March 31 this year, cancelling the registration of Viwshwa Dharmayatan Charitable Trust (VDCT), of which controversial godman Chandrawami is a trustee.

Accommodation

NEW DELHI: Over 2,000 Central Government employees' government accommodation on the basis of out-of-turn allotment got a reprieve on Friday when the Supreme Court extended till July 7, the period of their stay due to expire on June 20. These allottees were held as `unauthorised occupants' by a division bench headed by Justice Kuldip Singh.
