Severe heat wave in AP continues

HYDERABAD, May 30: Many parts of Andhra Pradesh continued to be in the grip of heat wave for the ninth consecutive day today as the day temperatures remained above normal. According to the weather office here, coastal Andhra Pradesh reeled under severe heat wave conditions while moderate heat wave prevailed over Telangana.

The coal mine town of Kothagudem recorded the highest temperature of 46 deg C. The twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad recorded a maximum temperature of 40.8 deg C.

Vijayawada city recorded 44.6 deg C, one degree less than yesterday's 45.2 deg C. Hot winds blew since this morning. The temperature at Rajahmundry came down to 43 deg C from yesterday's 46 deg C.

Meanwhile Vishakapatnam reeled under a severe heat wave on Thursday as the mercury soared to 42.8 deg C, i.e., nearly nine degrees above the normal temperature. This is the highest temperature recorded in here during the current summer.
