Mumbai-notes -- Magazine on grooming


* A specialised magazine on grooming for men and women, called Great Looks, published by Concise Publications Limited was launched recently.Edited by Cyrus Pestonji, the magazine will feature writers like the former editor of Femina Vimla Patil, Avan Jesia and Urjita Jain.

Gurjit Singh Bindra, owner of the publishing house, said the magazine would offer sound practical advice on how to perfect one's looks.

The Concise Publication house also publishes Chastity, Old Fox and Fighting Fit.

Appeal

* The world chairperson of Giants International Nana Chudasama stated that the Giants group of Jabalpur has taken up relief work for the victims of the Madhya Pradesh earthquake. In a press release, he said the group had already provided medicines, food and clothing to the injured. They also have plans to repair the damaged houses. Chudasama appealed to Mumbaiities to donate generously to the Giants International Charitable Trust for relief work. Donors are entitled to income tax exemption under the 80-g Income Tax Act.

Chitrahaar* Chitrahaar, the oldest film song-based programme on Doordarshan, has been nominated for the Radio and Television Advertising Practitioners' Association (RTAPA) awards in the Hindi film-based programme category. The awards distribution ceremony will be held on May 30 at the Nehru Centre, Worli, said a release. Directed by G A Rizvi for the Plus Channel, the programme in its present avtaar features the old and the new in film music based on a particular theme, and is anchored by film personalities.

Campaign

* The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) India is holding a `Know the City of Mumbai' campaign between June 14 and 15, which explores the relationship between architecture and the environment. For registration contact the WWF on 2075142 / 1970 / 8105.

Ayurvedic camp

* The Health Foundation of India is organising a free ayurvedic camp for migraine, chronic colds, asthma, acidity, anxiety, nervousness and other illnesses from May 26 to June 8 between 5 and 7 pm.

The camps will be conducted at 4F2 Court Chamber's 35 behind the Income Tax office, New Marine Lines. For registration contact Ashok Jain on 200 3902 / 6469 / 8507.

Advisory member

* Dattaram Ghuge, working chief of the Marathi Vrattapatra Lekhak Sangh, has been selected as advisory member to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting's (I and B) committee for the Mumbai branch of the Film Control Certification Board. The committee was announced by the I and B ministry last month.

Another advisory member, Dr Babulal Singh, president of the Samajik Nyay Morcha, Mumbai, has also been appointed. He is also the secretary of Rachna Kar, an educational institute, and the chairperson of the Mahanagri Co-operative Credit Society.

Course for blind

* The National Association for the Blind (NAB), Worli is admitting blind male candidates above 18 years for a two-year free vocational training course in light engineering, brush making, tailoring, office file making, wood work, motor and coil winding and assembly work. Free hostel facilities and a training allowance will be provided.
