Anti-dumping levy on alloy steel sought

ENS ECONOMIC BUREAU

MUMBAI, May 10: The Alloy Steel Producers Association (ASPA) has decided to file anti-dumping petitions with the government demanding the immediate imposition of `provisional' additional customs duty on large-scale dumping of many alloy steel grades.

ASPA, which is the apex body of the steel industry, is of the view that the liberalised import policy has resulted in large-scale dumping. This, it said, had damaged and caused injury to the legitimate interest of the Indian industry.

The association contended that the countries indulging in dumping are Brazil, Turkey, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Taiwan and United Kingdom. The petitions will highlight the magnitude of dumping and shall alert the government to the grave consequences if suitable anti-dumping levies are not adopted soon.
