to make an additional provision of about Rs 14,000 crore in
the next Budget for meeting expenditure on various accounts,
including Rs 12,000 crore for subsidy on kerosene and LPG, in
the first year after dismantling of the administered price mechanism. |

scale units seek big concessions from FinMin |

Small scale industry associations
have asked the finance minister for a slew of concessions in
Budget 2002-03, including enhancement of exemption limit for
excise duty to Rs 2 crore, raising basic exemption limit for
income tax to Rs 75,000 and 100 per cent exemption for exports
from income tax for all SSI units. |

norms for board meetings released |

The Institute of
Company Secretaries of India has for the first time released
secretarial standard for conducting meetings of the board of
directors. The standard lays down principles which the companies
are expected to follow during board meetings. |

demand farm sector reforms |

Agriculture experts
in the pre-Budget meeting with Union finance minister Yashwant
Sinha demanded immediate introduction of reforms in the farm
sector with adequate marketing strategy, measures for boosting
investment and more encouragement for crop diversification.
