Vizag Steel turnover up 20%

Kolkata, Jan 7: The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd on Monday reported a turnover of Rs 2,777 crore for the nine months up to December 31, 2001, an increase of 20 per cent on the figure for the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

VSP said exports increased by 26 per cent during the same period.
During 2001 calendar year, VSP’s turnover was Rs 3,855 cr, the best since its inception. It claims to be the only plant in India with a growth of over eight per cent.

During the year, world steel demand growth was a negative 0.6 per cent, while the Indian market showed a marginal growth rate of just over one per cent. China, however, achieved the highest growth rate in the world, of over 11 per cent.
