ministry would like the finance minister to consider fixing
a “uniform” excise rate for yarns and fabrics, both cotton and
man-made. |

The textiles industry has sought
reduction in customs duty on capital goods to 5 per cent to
encourage fresh investments in polyester industry. Capital goods
currently command an import duty of 25 per cent. |

Association has urged the government to earmark an outlay of
Rs 48,000 crore per year for the next five years a total of
Rs 2,40,000 crore for promoting low cost housing, cement concrete
roads and canal lining. |

Subhash Chandra has diluted his stake in the company by 2 per
cent for a total consideration of Rs 97 crore. Mr Chandra has
sold a total of 85,00,000 shares at Rs 115 per share. |
