Strike hits banking operations

New Delhi, Jan 4: Banking services through out the country on Friday were affected during a day-long strike by employees against alleged forcible transfers in Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), leading to hold up in bank clearance worth more than Rs 400 crore.

The SCB management while refusing any comment on the strike called by All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) said it had the right to carry out its functions. In Mumbai, the country’s commercial hub, clearing house operations at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) were partially affected owing to the strike.

"Clearing house operations were partially affected as six banks, including SCB, did not participate," a RBI spokesperson said.
