CESC woes spill over

Kolkata, Jan 4: The loss-making private power utility, CESC Ltd, is again heading towards a face off with two state-owned energy utilities, the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and the West Bengal State Electricity Board (Wbseb).

Both DVC and Wbseb have been trying to create pressure on CESC, an RPG group company, to clear all outstanding dues within the shortest possible time frame.

DVC said on Thursday it would restrict supplies to CESC twice a day for two hours each starting tomorrow, which according to the corporation, was done as per the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
However, CESC failed to react to DVC’s threat of restricted supplies, but instead said that it would stick to its own payment schedule which starts from February 2002.

DVC warned that if CESC failed to make the interim payment of Rs eight crore immediately, then it would disconnect supplies to CESC.
