Hard nut to crack
With some of the most high profile economic
cases being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation,
it’s but natural that corporate conversations often veer around
to the man at the helm of the investigating agency. These
days, corpo cocktail circles are hotly discussing the elevation
of P C Sharma as director.
For starters, everybody’s curious about
him since very little is known of the man. That’s because
Mr Sharma is one of those rare top cops who — in spite of
having served in Delhi for a long time — has consistently
kept away from the limelight, both in the media and the capital’s
social circuit.
But the little that corporate biggies do know about the gent
might be a trifle discomfiting for some of them. For, he carries
with him an impeccable reputation as an honest and a non-pliable
officer together with a no-nonsense approach to work.
And for those who are trying to find some ‘connection’ to
him (don’t businessmen always want to know the right people
in the right places?), it will probably be a futile exercise.
Mr Sharma is known to maintain his distance from politicians
and industrialists, preferring instead the company of old
friends.
Channel surfing
It's all about going to the proper channel. Former Zee Network
ad sales head and Zee News chief Satish Menon is rumoured
to be joining new media company Mak, as one of its directors.
He has been seen hanging around the offices of Mak, which
is to launch a bouquet of channels soon, including a Hindi
entertainment channel.
Mr Menon, who quit Zee recently, was all set to join Taj,
a sports channel which has been planning to start operations
in India. But the market is abuzz with speculation that Taj
will align with Zee, which is sorely in need of a sports channel
in its own bouquet. You won’t be a rocket scientist to figure
out Mr Menon’s place in the equation if Taj does indeed strike
an alliance with Zee. Which is why he is believed to have
made a beeline for Mak, where he’ll at least have a sporting
chance.
