PTC
crosses 1 bn units of trading

New Delhi, Jan 1: Power Trading Corporation (PTC) has
crossed 1 billion unit of trading while entering the new year.
As per a PTC release, the corporation, which had set a target
of trading 1,500 million unit (mu) for this financial year,
had already traded 946 mu during June-December 01.
PTC, started with limited transactions
during 1999-00 with 28.35 mu, going up to 43.77 mu during
2000-01. Major transactions of PTC for this fiscal included
160 mw from West Bengal to Delhi and Haryana, 70 mw from the
Malana hydro power in Himachal to Delhi, 50 mw from Goa to
Gujarat, another 50 mw from Goa to Karnataka and 100 mw power
from Chhattisgarh to Karnatka.
Presently, PTC transactions are covering four out of five
electricity regions of the country.
“PTC has many offers from states having surplus power and
captive power plants and there is scope for substantial increase
in the quantum of trading. However, many of the transactions
are hindered by the transmission constraints and paying capacities
of the state power utilities,” the release said.
PTC has also been identified as by the Centre as a nodal agency
to deal with matters relating to exchange of power between
India and Nepal.
