Infy sets BPO ball rolling

Infosys is looking at the the rollout of the first few business process transactions from India within the next three months as part of its thrust in the emerging BPO (business process outsourcing) sector.
Close to three customers are expected to be part of Infy’s BPO portfolio when activities commence.

The strategy for the company is to use labour arbitrage to pursue this new line of business with a focus on the high end of the segment.
Speaking to The Financial Express, Infosys Technologies worldwide head marketing and sales Phaneesh Murthy said this sector was in particular exciting inspite of being at a nascent stage.

‘‘The BPO industry in India will employ more people than the IT industry did. This is a big opportunity for a player like Infosys to get into this segment,’’ Mr Murthy said.
