Motor posts 10% rise in December sales
Bangalore, Jan 1: TVS Motor Company
Ltd on Tuesdady reported a 10 per cent rise in its overall
sales in December as compared to the same period in 2000 as
its motorcycles sales fared well, but sales of its mopeds
and TVS Scooty declined.
The motorcycle sales showed a strong performance
with sales increasing by 40 per cent (43,220 units) over the
same period in December, 2000 (30,859 units), a company statement
said.
It said the overall sales was 73,259 units as compared to
66,319 units in the same period last year. The growth in revenue
terms was 10 per cent due to higher ratio of motorcycles sold.
However, sales of TVS Scooty was down by 21 per cent with
sales of 8,432 units as compared to 10,641 units in December,
2000, but it continued to be the leader in scooterette segment
with a share of 37 per cent in the ungeared market, the company
said.
Likewise, moped sales was 21,582 units in comparison with
24,813 units in the same period last year.
The moped sales overall has seen a declining trend in the
domestic two-wheeler market, the release said. Expressing
confidence about the long-term prospects of the moped market,
it said it had plans to launch a four-stroke moped in the
second-quarter of next fiscal which, the company said, would
be the first of its kind in the
country.
