Car sales increase marginally
  Car sales registered a rise for the second consecutive month this year clocking a marginal 1.8 per cent increase in November, as auto manufacturers including Hyundai Motor India, Tata Engineering (Telco), Fiat and Ford India posted increased sales.
PM summons national meet on housing
  Prime minister AB Vajpayee has announced a national meet on housing involving all the chief ministers before the forthcoming Budget session. A national consensus will also be sought on repealing of the Urban Land Ceiling Act as also bring in a new Rent Control Act.
   
ABM treaty: India advocates US, Russian cooperation
  India on Saturday advocated a “cooperative approach” between the US and Russia without taking recourse to unilateralism in the ongoing consultations relating to the 1972 Anti-ballistic Missile (ABM) treaty.
Centre promises aid to states for irrigation
  In a bid to pursue reforms in the irrigation sector, the Union government has firmed up a scheme to provide liberal financial assistance to the states, which are ready to increase water charges.
