Sizzling
in the winter |
| |
At least three of my colleagues
jumped up when I opened my invite to the Sizzler Festival at
NYC, the Radisson Hotel’s coffee shop, and begged, “Please may
we come, too?” I needed no further proof that sizzlers were
hot, and not just in spirit. |

Tribal
rite-off |
| |
With the first sip (gulp, rather)
of the Bloody Mary, my instinct was to duck for cover. The rather
generously salted goblet rim and the tomato juice spiked with
dollops of what I presume was tabasco sauce seemed to have lit
up the vodka on its way down my gullet. |

India’s
human essence displayed |
| |
India perhaps more than any
other country draws those who concern themselves with the human
condition today. It has proved a good sounding board for people
as different as V S Naipaul, Gunter Grass, Dominique Lapierre,
Gunnar Myrdal and Chester Bowles, to name only a few who sought
and found some sort of resonance here. |

Hollywood
dreams |
| |
A meal in the spacious,
open Palms restaurant of the Oberoi with Hollywood personalities
looking down at you from framed pictures is an enjoyable experience. |
