Bangalore, Dec 9: Storage technology player EMC Information
Systems is all set to position itself as a key player in the
‘software for hardware’ market with the launch of its AutoIS
software strategy for the storage industry.
The global strategy, which was announced
recently, is set to be rolled out in India and will consist
of a suite of functional software under the AutoIS umbrella,
which will facilitate customers to manage their storage infrastructure
from a single point.
“In the last fiscal, EMC saw 20 per cent of its business coming
from software, so this is a major strategy for us. Increasingly
the key differentiator between one company and the competitor
will be the value addition, and for us the value offered is
the functional software range that we offer,” said EMC country
manager T Srinivasan.
The Auto IS product umbrella will constitute of three key
components—EMC Control Centre (management layer), Wide Sky
(middle Layer) and a range of products, which will be part
of the bottom layer connected to the functional software.
“The customer will need to load the Auto IS products on the
EMC Symmetrix (SAN product) and this will allow complete integration
and management of the legacy system from one single point
of management. ,” Mr Srinivasan added.
With hardware prices being driven down and with the demand
for simplicity of operation on the rise, EMC was hoping to
leverage the ability to add simplicity to the storage management
process and also gain entry into the software market, he said.
