Samsung organises free eyecare camps
Huma Siddiqui
In line with its philosophy of contributing to the welfare
of communities it operates in, Samsung India Electronics Ltd
is organising 25 free eye check-up camps in Delhi and neighbouring
states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.
Starting from early October, the company
has already organised free camps in Sahibabad, Gurgaon, Faridabad,
Sonepat and Rewari. The camps will last till the year end.
“The free eye check-ups are being carried out by Delhi-based
Venu Eye Institute & Research Centre, which is an organisation
committed to taking quality eyecare to the doorstep of the
visually afflicted people living in urban slums and rural
areas of India,” says S S Lee, managing director of Samsung
India.
“We carried out similar free eye check-up camps through Venu
Eye Institute in the last quarter of 1999. Based on their
success, we decided to carry out such camps this year as well,”
he says. The number and the reach of the eye camps has been
extended this year.
Samsung says it believes in returning to the community some
of the profits that the company earns from it. In February
this year, the company supported SOS Children’s Villages of
India in its relief work in the earthquake affected state
of Gujarat, Mr Lee said.
Samsung’s contribution went towards supporting the Emergency
Child Relief Camps in Rapar, Anjar and Bhachau. These camps
extended relief services to around 1,250 quake-affected children
in these areas.
