going on a recruitment binge

New Delhi, Dec 3: The Confederation of Indian Industry
(CII) is going on a recruitment binge. “We will be the one-stop
shop for doing business in India,” CII director-general Tarun
Das said. The drive, meant to plug in the gaps identified
by the Boston Consulting Group, will take CII’s net to the
district level.
“We are looking for all kinds of talent...in human resources,
power, IT, you name it. Indeed, the best talent in the industry
now wants to work for CII. So, naturally, that’s the audience
we will target in our recruitment drive,” Mr Das said.
He said reputed consultancies will support
CII in sifting through applications, and “the decision on
who to recruit will be a professional one, undertaken by the
secretariat”.
“We have decided to open its offices at this level, so that
members are served better and regional economy gets a boost,”
explained CII deputy director-general Ajay Khanna.
“CII has decided to open two offices in the North East, one
in Kohima and another in Gauhati,” he added.
The industry body has recently opened an office in Gwalior,
in addition to two offices already functioning in Bhopal and
Indore. Offices have been opened in Mysore, Coimbatore and
Pune too, so as cater to the need of the members located there,
Mr Khanna said.
CII district offices will not only help its members but also
actively participate in socio-economy growth of the region,
Mr Khanna said adding that CVII is planing to open other district
offices in the country. He, however, did not disclose other
locations.
There will be a horizontal and vertical growth of CII on both
international and domestic fronts in the coming years, Mr
Khanna said.
CII International has has already opened 11 offices in countries
like USA, UK, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Israel, Singapore,
Hong Kong and Johannesburg and plans to open offices in Brussels,
Kuala Lampur and Malaysia.
The membership of CII is also growing as over 500 new members
joined CII in the last calender year.
Most of the new members represented the southern zone, followed
by the north zone, according to a CII source.
CII, which has now over 4,000 individual members and more
than 100 ASCON (Association Council of CII) members, representing
over 50,000 companies.
