Designed for the 21st century woman

Rado’s eSenza, touted to be the world’s first crownless watch,
is now available in India

SRIKUMAR BONDYOPADHYAY

Rado has brought to India its eSenza watch model, which was declared the “best innovative product” at this year’s Basel Fair in Switzerland. eSenza is a ladies wristwatch.

Why did the Swiss manufacturer choose the name eSenza? With good reason, it would seem. In Italian, eSenza means “it is without”, and that is exactly what the watch is—without a crown. In fact, the eSenza watch is touted to be the world’s first crownless watch, which tells the time with simply two hands on the upper surface.

Blending elegance with vibrancy, just like the rhythmic movements of a body in dance, and expressing a multitude of feelings in a fleeting moment, the eSenza is characterised by its simple artistic purism, which is reflected through Rado’s first ever crownless design and technology.

In the eSenza, Rado has once again shown its talent in design and technology innovation. The watch is curved in sapphire crystal, which floats like a cupola over the entire upper surface. Its back case is made from skin-friendly titanium, which is resistant to water till 30 metres below the water surface.

Rado is offering its eSenza collection in three variants and each range is available in three different sizes. In the pure version, the time is displayed simply by two hands and the matching leather strap gleams in fine, glossy, patent leather. The classical version has 12 hour-index points and two hands. Its leather strap is specially coated and has a seductive silky feel. The third ‘luxury’ variant comes with four diamonds on pure black with a leather strap in mock crocodile.

The back of each eSenza watch contains two contact fields—plus and minus—which, when the magnetic element at the end of the leather strap is placed in the appropriate indentation, causes the hands to move in the desired direction.

The eSenza watches will be available at Rado’s 60 retail outlets across India. Prices start at Rs 34,200.

In keeping with its design statement—dance of the senses to boundless passion, the eSenza launch in New Delhi last week was preceded by a performance by the internationally known ballerina, Stacey, and her troupe as well as a contemporary dance performance by Navtej and Jemima. With the eSenza, Rado is also introducing a collection bearing the theme, ‘Colours of the Senses’.

eSenza is the third ladies wristwatch model launched in India this year by Rado. Earlier, in June, the Swiss company had launched Ovation, its second scratchproof ladies watch, the first being DiaStar.

With its no-frills design, the Rado Ovation is priced at Rs 61,400 and the watch is available in three dial variants—pure, classic and luxury.

Before that, Rado launched Nuptial, aimed at newly weds and couples. The watch is offered in an integral pack of two watches—one for the bride and the other for the groom. The integrated design of the pair of watches exudes an aura of intimacy.

The dials of the watches are made of scratchproof sapphire crystal and the bracelets are light and supple and embedded with crystals.
