The government has responded
to the European Union Council’s demand for reduction in custom
duty on liquor by seeking a change in the definition of whisky
by the Council which has hit exports from India.
The government is working out
a formula to bring out a package in the next Budget to spare
the middle class and the poor from a substantial hike in prices
of cooking gas after dismantling of administrative price mechanism
in April 1, 2002, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
The Sebi has barred two South India-based companies Novel
Finance (I) Ltd, formerly known as PK Vaduvammal Finance Ltd
and Sunrise Oleo Chemicals Ltd and its four directors, from
entering the capital market for a period of five years.
