Our eFE Bureau in Chennai

Midas Communication Technology Ltd, the Chennai-based telephony and Internet network product company, has commissioned its CorDECT Wirelsss Local Loop (WLL) system at Paragominas in Brazil. The system was installed by Nortelpa, a mini-minor telecom service provider in Brazil, according to a statement issued by the company here.

The $2.2 million order would provide 10,000 lines to be implemented over the next six months in nine cities across Brazil. The mini-minor licensing scheme was introduced by the government of Brazil to provide telephony and related services to semi-urban and rural communities and is licensed to various operators like Nortelpa.

“With the successful commissioning of CorDECT, Midas will cater to the needs of many such mini-minor operators in Brazil”, the company statement said adding, “CorDECT was chosen by the Brazil government because it is capable of providing both voice and Internet and is the most cost-effective solution both in terms of capital expenditure and recurring operating expenses to run the system. CorDECT is also approved by the Brazilian regulating authority”.

The statement said the Midas has completed the entire installation process of CorDECT for Nortelpa on a turnkey basis. The job involved manufacture, supply, installation, commissioning and training. Midas would also maintain the system for an initial period of six months. The services provided are simultaneous voice and Internet. The exchange provides telecom services to a population of about 70,000 and cover an area of 15 km using a relay base station, the statement said.

Incorporated in 1994, Midas Communication Technologies Pvt Ltd is a Chennai-based product development company.
