commissions CorDECT WLL system in Brazil

Midas Communication Technology Ltd, the Chennai-based telephony
and Internet network product company, has commissioned its
CorDECT Wirelsss Local Loop (WLL) system at Paragominas in
Brazil. The system was installed by Nortelpa, a mini-minor
telecom service provider in Brazil, according to a statement
issued by the company here.
The $2.2 million order would provide 10,000
lines to be implemented over the next six months in nine cities
across Brazil. The mini-minor licensing scheme was introduced
by the government of Brazil to provide telephony and related
services to semi-urban and rural communities and is licensed
to various operators like Nortelpa.
“With the successful commissioning of CorDECT, Midas will
cater to the needs of many such mini-minor operators in Brazil”,
the company statement said adding, “CorDECT was chosen by
the Brazil government because it is capable of providing both
voice and Internet and is the most cost-effective solution
both in terms of capital expenditure and recurring operating
expenses to run the system. CorDECT is also approved by the
Brazilian regulating authority”.
The statement said the Midas has completed the entire installation
process of CorDECT for Nortelpa on a turnkey basis. The job
involved manufacture, supply, installation, commissioning
and training. Midas would also maintain the system for an
initial period of six months. The services provided are simultaneous
voice and Internet. The exchange provides telecom services
to a population of about 70,000 and cover an area of 15 km
using a relay base station, the statement said.
