Our Corporate Bureau

Hyderabad, Nov 5: In a bid to establish direct customer contact, Japanese watch major Citizen has proposed to set up company showrooms in each of the towns in the country.

“We are proposed to set up one showroom at each of the cities in year time”, Mr N Iwata, managing director Citizen Watches India told the press persons here on Monday. The Citizen brand now holds about 10 per cent market share in India, he said.

At present, the marketing strategy is to strengthen the retail presence, through opening company showrooms in major cities, Mr N Iwata said. He was here in connection with the opening of the second showroom, christened First Citizen in Hyderabad.

The company has already opened a showroom in Bangalore in August, which is a straight success with over Rs two million sales turnover in about two months. The company proposes to open one more showroom at Pune next month, he said.

Through the new showrooms the company plans to put on display the internationally accepted models for the benefit of the Indian customers, Mr K Chandy Jacob, senior vice-present of the company said. As part of the marketing strategy, we have entered the second phase, where we will work for enhancement of market reach and product range, and this will be possible through these exclusive showrooms, Mr Jacob said.

The latest arrival, Eco-Drive Vitro is on display at the showroom, which is priced Rs 30,000 per unit.

The fine strips of amorphous silicon virtually invisible to the naked eye is placed on the watch glass, through which electricity is generated when light strikes the glass and the watch will function with this power, Mr Jacob explained.
