DOEACC taps PSUs for recognition

Ashu Kumar in New Delhi

In a bid to boost job opportunities for its certified students, DOEACC (Department of Electronics Accreditation of Computer courses) has approached 251 government organisations which are members of Statutory Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) to recognise DOEACC qualifications in their recruitment process. In response, a few organisations including Indian Airlines and Dena Bank have already shown interest in initiating the process in this regard.

The proposal, once accepted by these public enterprises, would mean that the DOEACC certifications would also be accepted as professional IT qualification for recruitment. Currently, most of these organisation recognise only formal degrees courses like BTech and MCA (master of computer applications).

When contacted by The Financial Express, DOEACC executive director P N Gupta confirmed that letters had been sent to all 251 organisations last week and a few companies had already responded positively.

The letter, which was sent to these companies, included the syllabus details of DOEACC courses and examinations process to convince companies about the quality of its certification courses, added Mr Gupta. “I have already received a few letters from chief executives or HRD (human resource development) heads of the companies assuring that they would do the needful to include DOEACC qualifications in their HR rules,” he added.

Encouraged with the response, DOEACC is also planning to approach all members of National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) for recognition to DOEACC courses and its students for employment in their companies, said Mr Gupta.

DOEACC, which is an autonomous body under the ministry of information technology, offers accreditation to private and government institutions to conduct ’O’, ’A’, ’B’ and ’C’ level of information technology courses. The society also conducts examinations twice a year under its own supervision at more than 100 centers across the country.

All the courses (except ’C’ level) are already recognised by department of education, ministry of human resource development for government posts but most of the individual government companies have not yet recognised the courses. According to Mr Gupta, Ministry of HRD has recognised ’O’ level course as a foundation course, ’A’ level as Advance Diploma and ’B” level as MCA for the purpose of employment to posts and services under the central government.
