registrations dip 21.4 per cent in July

New Delhi, Oct 3: The current industrial slowdown
seems to have taken a heavy toll on India Inc. According to
an official release by the Department of Company Affairs (DCA)
the number of companies registered with the government has
fallen by 21.4 per cent to 1,842 during the month of July
from 2,346 in the corresponding the previous year. The release
further stated that the number of companies registered during
July was also less than the month of June, which saw a registration
figure of 1,852 companies.
Of the 1,842 companies registered during the month, 1,833
companies were limited by shares while nine companies were
guarantee companies.
The total authorised capital of the 1,842 companies amounted
to Rs 479.22 crore, the figures showed. The release stated
that an estimated 5,79,608 companies were operating till July.
Financing, insurance, real estate and business services companies
dominated the list with 501 registrations while 420 registrations
were for wholesale and retail trade, restaurants and hotels.
A total of 147 construction companies and 116 community, social
and personal services companies were registered during July
this year.
