United Airlines pulls out of India, cuts 20% capacity

Our Corporate Bureau

New Delhi, Sept 17: Travel to the US is all set to undergo major changes with United Airlines (UA) announcing a pullout from India and other airlines stating that they were "reviewing the situation".

UA’s decision spells discontinuation of the round-the-world service and shelving of its plans for direct non-stop flight from Delhi to Chicago. UA announced on Monday that it was reducing its total capacity by 20 per cent in the wake of the terrorist attacks.

The airline, which was to start the first direct flight connecting Delhi to Chicago in October, said in a press release that "as United cuts capacity and services in order to respond to the new business and security environments that follow last week’s attacks, the India service is being discontinued".
