Domestic firms fare well at international electronics fair

New Delhi, Sept 12: Six Indian consumer electronics companies, including BPL Limited, Calcom Vision, Elin Electronics, Mirc Electronics (Onida), Sonodyne and Videocon International, put up a good show at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA), the consumer electronic fair in Berlin, Germany, and generated confirmed orders (including serious enquiries) worth Rs 140 crore.

The response to the recently concluded IFA’ 2001 and to the overall fair was positive.

BPL, Onida and Videocon are expected to sell more than 1.5 million TVs in the European market. Sonodyne launched its set of speakers, which were developed together with the ministry of information technology (MIT), called Genie.

The successful participation of the Indian companies at the largest consumer electronics show in the world was organised by MIT, the consumer electronics division department, along with support from Indo-German Export Promotion Project (IGEP).

There were 915 exhibitors from 40 countries and the fair was visited by more than 3.7 lakh visitors. The event focussed especially on the advances made by digital technology, projection TVs, home theatres, sophisticated vehicle communication system and also the world’s most expensive music system.
