Global slowdown hits vendor finance for cell cos
  The last time cellular telecom networks were being rolled out, telecom infrastructure vendors were active in providing financing to the new operators. However, vendor financing is going to be much more difficult to come by this time round as the leading vendors, which include the likes of Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia, Alcatel, Lucent and Siemens, find themselves struggling with the global economic crunch.
BSNL continues to dilly-dally on paging industry bailout
  Two months after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recommended that incoming calls to pagers should become a premium service, and asked the fixed service operators to work out the finer details of the same with paging operators, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is still dragging its feet over the issue.
COAI asks govt to enforce V5.2 use on FSPs
  The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has demanded that the government implement “the law of the land” as far as enforcing the use of V5.2 interface on fixed service providers (FSPs) and revenue share of 5:95 in case of long distance calls made from mobile wireless in local loop (WLL) code division multiple access (CDMA) handsets.
DD World readies to become pay channel
  Doordarshan's international channel, DD World has plans of becoming a pay channel. A free-to-air channel now, DD World will start earning subscription-based revenues once it goes pay.
