Henko promoters cleared of unfair trading charges

New Delhi, Aug 21: MONOPOLIES and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) has exonerated ’Henko’ detergent maker SPIC Fine Chemicals Ltd from the charges of unfair trade for launching a contest which did not require any skill or knowledge to participate and win the prizes offered and was allegedly aimed tO promote Henko sales.

The MRTPC chairman CM Nayar and member RL Sudhir while discharging notice of enquiry initiated against SPIC Fine Chemicals, said “It cannot be said in the present case that the contest was formulated because there was no skill or knowledge required to participate and win the price.”

The complaint had alleged that the participant of the contest launched by the company had to buy Henko detergent and was primarily aimed to promote its sale as there was no knowledge or skill required to participate and win the prizes offered under it.

The MRTPC bench disposed of the complaint filed by director general (investigation & registration) and also observed that there was no material to indicate that the price was charged for participation in the draw of lots of successful scheme. (PTI)
