Bank staff union to publicise loan defaulters’ names by Sept

Our Banking Bureau

Chennai, Aug 14: The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) is planning to make public a list of willful defaulters of bank loans within the next couple of weeks.

The list would have names of loan defaulters of banks, especially public sector banks, who had taken loans of more than Rs 50 crore. The move assumes importance as many of the PSU banks’ bad assets are due to the non-payment of loans by corporate houses. Mr Tarakeswar Chakraborti, general secretary of the association, said, “The association is likely to publish a catalogue with names of defaulters of bank loans by September. The list will have details of defaulters of banks as on March 2001.”
