Kirby Building to set up another plant in India

Hyderabad, Aug 10: Kirby Building Systems India Ltd (Kirby), a Kuwait-based Alghanim Industries group company engaged in pre-engineered steel building, is planning to set up a second plant in India at Bawal on Delhi-Jaipur highway in Haryana.

According to Dr VR Rajan, chief executive officer of the company, the new plant will be set up with an investment of Rs 40 crore which will have an installed capacity of of 40,000 MT. The plant is expected to cater to the northern and north-east states.

The company has obtained ISO 9001 accreditation from BVQI London for design, manufacture and supply of pre-engineered steel building systems and steel guard-rail systems within one year of the operation, Dr Rajan said.

Kirby had set up a state-of-the-art plant at Pashamylaram near Hyderabad with an installed capacity of 40,000 MT. The Hyderabad plant started commercial operations in June 2000 posting a turnover of Rs 40 crore for six months. The company has fixed a target of over Rs 100 crore for the full year of operation ending December 2001, Dr Rajan said.

Though the concept of pre-engineered steel buildings have not yet caught in India, the company could be able to penetrate into corporate houses as it has already completed over 300 jobs in a span of one year operations.

Besides, the company has developed lightweight steel structures that are capable of withstanding the severest combination of seismic and cyclonic forces. “We have built structures in the Kutch earthquake, which has seismic and cyclonic”, he said.
