New Delhi, Aug 3

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) has asked the government to clear the bio-diversity Bill in the current session of the parliament.

According to the chamber this would help the country claim sovereign rights over its bio resources and integrate implementation of the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD) and the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Chamber president, Mr Raghu Mody said, "There’s a need for expediting the introduction of the Act in the context of WTO providing a regulatory and institutional framework for the world trading system."
