Coke plans more Indianised flavours

Chennai, June 6: SOFTDRINKS major Coca-Cola is planning to launch at least three more Indianised flavours in the domestic market shortly.

Speaking to reporters last night on the occasion of the launch of the company’s latest Fanta flavour Green Apple, Mr Amit Jain, Coke’s region operations director said Fanta watermelon would hit the market next followed by three more Indian flavours later.

He said Fanta apple green and Fanta watermelon were selected from a variety of typical Indian flavour options which included grape, brown apple, peach and strawberry. He said green apple and watermelon being introduced initially in the South were expected to contribute at least five per cent to the company’s this year’s turnover.

“Both the flavours are very familiar tastes to the Indian palate,” he said, adding that Fanta orange grew 30 per cent in Tamil Nadu alone last year. Explaining the reasons for launch of the new Fanta flavours in the South, he said “Consumers in the South prefer flavoured soft drinks over the traditional colas and we wanted to add to their choices.”
