MTS introduces new energy labelling concept

Our Corporate Bureau

Mumbai, June 6: MERLONI TermoSanitari (MTS) has introduced the concept of energy labelling to identify energy efficient products and encourage their use. It has also introduced the water heater technology for the first time in India.

Merloni TermoSanitari (India) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Italian parent and the largest manufacturer and seller of water heaters in India, an MTS release said. On the launch of the
MTS product range, MTS group, SpA Italy, managing director, V Fedeli said, “Though the underlying focus for the movement was to protect the environment and conserve the resources for future generations, the economic benefits alone now justify the need to conserve energy through the use of energy efficient products.”
Mr Brij Agarwal, manager, technical support, Asia region - Canadian Standards Association stated, “The main purpose of standards in the area of energy efficiency is to provide a test method and to standardise product efficiency claims. It also generates a consistent reporting method and creates a level playing field for all the manufacturers.”

Indian operations of MTS included India’s largest and singular fully integrated water heater plant, located in Chakan near Pune in Maharashtra with investment amounting to Rs 30 crore.

The plant has been operational since March 1999 and is the only plant in the MTS facility with a global export base for water heaters with stainless steel inner containers, the release said.

Coinciding with the Asia Pacific launch, MTS would also be bringing their Ariston range of air-conditioners to India, during the summer of 2001, the release said. The MTS group has a turnover of $464 million, manufacturing 4.3 million products annually from its manufacturing units in 15 countries worldwide and has a global presence in 150 countries.
