Ashima group sets
up garment washing plant at Ahmedabad
Our Corporate Bureau
Mumbai, May 22: THE Rs 600-crore Ashima group is setting
up a garment washing plant at Ahmedabad at a cost of Rs 5.25 crore.
The plant is a joint venture with ALT group of Germany, the largest
multinational garment washing company in the world.
Ashima group has a 35 per cent equity in the project and the rest
will be held by ALT group. The plant at Ahmedabad will be operational
by September this year, added Ashima group chairman C Parikh. The
plant will offer garment finishing including washing, deying, sandblasting,
coating and wrinkle free facilities. Apart from this, other specialty
treatments like hand scrapping will also be provided at the plant.
Mr Parikh added that the plant will be operated by ALT group as
Ashima does not have expertise in running the state-of-the-art plant.
The plant will have a capacity to wash 4,000 to 6,000 units per
day. The company is planning to double the capacity in the next
one year. Mr Parikh said the company is also planning to come up
with another washing plant at Bangalore in the next one year. After
this, the company wants to set up a third plant in the north but
has not finalised the location as yet. Ashima group is the first
denim manufacturer in India. It also manufactures stretch denim
with less than 5 per cent residual shrinkage. Ashima markets it
fabrics to over 150 Indian garment exporters and exports to more
than 45 countries. They are also the only group in India to have
the Supima label for its fabrics. Ashima specialises in woven and
knit shirting fabrics with special finishes, denims with special
finishes and world class fabric for pants with special finishes.
