AS the government takes a beating on opening the country’s doors to ‘unhealthy’ competition, and the ensuing confusion looming large over the World Trade Organisation (WTO), many state and non-state initiatives have been launched to create awareness among the business community on how best to protect its interests.

Major fire in Asia’s biggest mango market
ALMOST the entire mango market, Asia’s largest, was gutted in a major fire on Monday night, destroying large stocks of mangoes besides lorries, tractors, aircoolers and transformers. No casualties were, however, reported, the police said here on Tuesday. As many as 71 shops of the total 80 were gutted in the fire, a local fire officer said.

Precious metals fall; oils recover smartly
Gold prices reacted downwards by Rs 60 to close at Rs 4,600 on the bullion market here on Tuesday due to profit-booking by players in the wake of reversal of the recent firm price trends in the global markets.
