DF allies plan a letter to CM to probe Dabhol project deal

Our Political Bureau

Mumbai, May 15: THE constituents of Democratic Front (DF) government in Maharashtra, in a bid to further toughen their stand against Dabhol project, plan a letter to the chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Wednesday to press their demand for the judicial probe into the deal and make public all documents related to the project.

The DF’s coordination committee convener ND Patil told the reporters on Tuesday that the parties comprising Peasants and Workers Party, Janata Dal (S), Samajwadi Party, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Republican Party of India (Athavale) are all planning a letter to the chief minister asking for setting up of a commission of inquiry and making public all the documents concerning power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Enron.

According to Mr Patil, once all the confidential documents of the PPA are made public, the “bunglings” in signing it will come to the fore thus absolving the state government from paying liquidated damages to the energy giant.

Mr Patil also demanded that the state government should make public all agreements with other independent power producers such as Reliance and Ispat for setting up their power plants in the state.
