Yamaha to launch
new 4-stroker
Our Bureau
Hyderabad, May 15: IN a bid to increase its sagging market
share, Yamaha Escorts Ltd is planning to launch another 4-stroke
bike in August and introducing slew of low-end models. Yamaha, which
presently stands fourth with a market share of 11 per cent, is gearing
up with new technology to tap the vast growing four-stroke market,
Yamaha Escorts Ltd zonal manager, south, A Raghuvanshi told mediamen
here on Tuesday. This has been possible since the Japan auto major
Yamaha had recently increased its stake to 74 per cent to bring
in latest technology to the Indian market, he said while relaunching
the RX 135 version in Hyderabad.
The company is planning to concentrate more on the south Indian
market, which continues to contributes 50 per cent to the overall
sales. “We expect to take the south market share to 20 per cent
from 12 per cent at now,” Mr Raghuvanshi said. While strongly denying
the rumours that Yamaha will import motorcycles made
in its Chinese factory into India, Mr Raghuvanshi said Yamaha will
improve its Indian facility and sell the products made in India.
“Given Yamaha’s focussed marketing strategy, we are confident of
acquiring sizeable portion of the Indian motorcycle market over
the next three years,” he said.
On the relaunched version of RX 135 he said: “For the healthier
environment, we have added a catalytic converter to keep the emission
under permissible pollution norms — India 2000,” and added that
it even would meet the emission norms of 2003 and 2004 as and when
required.
