Prasad to be non-executive chairman of BG India

New Delhi, May 15: BRITISH Gas India (BG India) on Tuesday announced the appointment of former Gas Authority of India Ltd (Gail) chairman and managing director CR Prasad as non-executive chairman of the group’s India operation.

Mr Prasad would be responsible for forging partnerships for BG India to further the growth of its existing business interests - Gujarat Gas, Mahanagar Gas and the proposed Pipavav liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal - and for identifying new market opportunities for the group in India, a company statement said here. “We are very pleased to be welcoming Prasad to bg group. His experience in the energy field and knowledge of India’s indigenous gas industry will be invaluable to our current businesses and future ambitions in India,” BG Group PLC chief executive Frank Chapman said.

British Gas India Pvt Ltd, a 100 per cet subsidiary of BG Group PLC, is developing an integrated gas infrastructure in India. It is a 65 per cent shareholder in Gujarat Gas Company Ltd with transmission and distribution operations in Surat, Ankleshwar and Bharuch in southern Gujarat.

It is also building a gas distribution operation in Mumbai via Mahanagar Gas Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture with Gail. (PTI)
