    ‘Auto majors cutting output, inventory to tackle slowdown’
THE much-touted slowdown in the US economy seems to have had a sobering effect on major automobile manufacturers. Companies, including behemoths like General Motors Corporation (GM), are now taking a relook at their production capacity and inventory levels. As general manager (corporate strategy and knowledge development) Vincent P Barabba points out, “Most of the companies have slowed down production. Companies are now thinking about reducing inventory levels.”

Hard Fight
FULFORD (India) is a leading manufacturer in the oncology and anti-histamine segment. It is fighting against odds to emerge a winner. Sales increased by 9.6 percent to Rs 134 crore in the year to December 2000. Total expenses increased by 5.6 percent to Rs 132 crore. Operating profit was Rs 4.2 crore crore as against the previous year’s loss of Rs one crore. Net profit was Rs Rs 1.7 crore as against a net loss of Rs 3.3 crore.

United Breweries to dilute stake in S African venture
UNITED Breweries is evaluating the feasibility of diluting its holding in South African brewery company United National Breweries, by either partial sale to an interested company or by going in for a listing on the Johannesberg Stock Exchange.
