Syntel talks Turkey with $1.2m project
Kavita Nair
Syntel, a global e-business and applications outsourcing firm, has bagged a $1.2 million project from Turkey-based Boursan Holding A.S, a conglomerate of companies engaged in steel and pipe manufacturing, automobile distribution, logistics, telecommunications, Internet and other businesses.Phase one of this project, which involves setting a Web-based e-marketplace called Otomax.com for the purchase, servicing and disposal of automobiles in Turkey, has already been implemented. Mr Baru S Rao, chief operating officer Syntel said that the second phase of this project would be implemented in a couple of months and will include new features. He said that once the functional details are decided Syntel will accordingly price it. The e-marketplace has been developed by Syntel's on-site and offshore technology teams. The site will enable the selection and purchase of new and used vehicles, referrals for vehicle financing, insurance and repair services, consumer sales of used vehicles, bulk vehicle buying, as well as providing information to auto enthusiasts. Syntel has developed the architecture of the hardware, middleware, data and application, produced the creative design and developed and implemented the system. Mr Rao explained that `Otomax.com' is a part of series of `exchange systems' - a virtual marketplace where the buyers and sellers can get the best deals. Similar initiatives have already been undertaken. The first phase of one of the exchange systems implemented last year was in UK called `texyard'. Texyard focuses on the buying and selling of synthetics yarn and fiber in the UK marketplace. Within this Syntel had created a reverse auction where people can buy and sell any textile from any part of UK. The second phase of this exchange went live on January this year. `Skillbay' a virtual marketplace for Human Resources, is another initiative from the `exchange systems.' It is an incubation program where the employees from Syntel have a stake. Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
