Mumbai, March 28 : Tata Power has selected Sycamore Networks as a supplier of intelligent optical networking technology for the company's proposed intelligent optical network in Mumbai. As part of the agreement, the Bangalore-based Tejas Networks has been chosen to provide network design, installation and customer support services.Tata Power's will be India's first intelligent optical network ever for which the company will be using Sycamore's SN 8000 metro core (MC) intelligent optical transport system. The network will help the company offer high-speed services to support the bandwidth needs of the city's high growth industries.
SN 8000 MC leverages the capacity creation capabilities of DWDM technology and innovative networking software. "We chose to enter the market with Sycamore's leading intelligent optical networking technology and the local network design and support expertise of Tejas. This combination will allow Tata Power to quickly build a fundamentally new type of network in India," Tata Power general manager (IT & telecom) VN Prabhu said. "Sycamore and Tejas are an effective combination within India and Tata Power looks forward to quickly deploying their innovative solutions to build the infrastructure we need to scale our network to terabit speeds," Tata Power chief associate Zal Engineer added.
Tata Power plans to be a pioneer in building a state-of-the-art optical infrastructure to support India's growing broadband requirements. The company chose Mumbai for its first metro network deployment due to its bandwidth hungry commercial industries.
