BSNL, MTNL to have special marketing units
The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) will create special marketing units for evolving time-bound marketing for evolving time-bound marketing strategies in the emerging competitive environment in the telecom sector. This decision was taken by the Minister for Communications, Mr Ram Vilas Paswan at a meeting of senior officials from these organisations.

Pinnacle, Sony in pact for digital home video solutions
Pinnacle Systems and Sony India Ltd have announced an alliance to promote digital home video solutions in the country. Pinnacle and Sony India would come out with bundled deals, which would include Sony's digital handycam and Pinnacle video editing solution. This would also help in the home video recording and editing market to mature and grow, says a Sony spokesperson. Pinnacle Systems is a leading producer of video editing solutions and Sony is a worldwide player in the digital video segment.

40 atom-sized chips to do 10 trillion calculations a second
Ten trillion calculations a second with 40 atom-sized chips in a small computer? It is possible, if current experiments at the Los Alamos National Laboratory are successful. It is called quantum computing. By using radio waves to manipulate atoms, scientists hope to coax a molecule called crotonic acid into executing a simple computer programme. Last year they set a record, carrying out a calculation involving seven atoms. This year they are increasing the number to 10 atoms.

Shell to use Citrix MetaFrame software
Citrix Systems have announced that Shell, one of the leading petrochemical conglomerates, is moving to the server-based computing model using Citrix MetaFrame application software. The Shell Group's strategic decision is part of the Shell Project GID (Group Infrastructure-Desktop), an IT initiative designed to deploy a standardized desktop worldwide to 80,000 clients.

Director appointed at Infosys Leadership Institute
Infosys Technologies Ltd has announced the appointment of Dr GK Jayaram as director of the Infosys Leadership Institute. Dr Jayaram will be responsible for the effective running of the Institute as well as driving the initiative to nurture future leaders of the company.
