Tejas Networks launches optical access product

Bangalore: Bangalore-based optical networking product company Tejas Networks India Pvt Ltd has announced the launch of its carrier class TJ 100 optical access product which will build intelligent optical networking technology into the network. The product, which has been completely conceptualised, designed and produced in India, is the first of the TJ family of products in the pipeline. Tejas has lined up Tata Power Company Ltd as its first customer and the product will be deployed in the state-of-the art metro network being set up in Mumbai. Tata Power will also be deploying the SN 8000 Metro Core from Sycamore Networks together with TJ 100 to build the network. Incidentally, Sycamore Networks has invested in Tejas Networks, as part of its plans to leverage the combined strength to tap the growing India and Asia markets. Addressing the media, Sycamore Networks and Tejas networks chairman Dr Gururaj `Desh' Deshpande said infrastructure buildup globally was set to see exponential growth, and with innovation inoptics providing scalable, high-end architecture was the key. The TJ 100 product was completed in a time frame of six months from start to finish and was positioned in the range of $25,000-$30,000 for a high-end configuration and between $8,000-$10,000 for a lower end configuration. ``The product is highly flexible and supports both TDM (time division multiplexing -- SONET/SDH standards) and packet interfaces. TJ 100 family integrates both transport and switching functions and can be deployed in the carriers points or prescence and as customer premise equipment,'' said Tejas Networks CEO Sanjar Nayak.Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
