New Delhi, March 26: Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) has stated that the recent decision of World Trade Organisation (WTO) to prohibit imports of chrystolite (white asbestos) from Canada to France, is discriminatory. The WTO ruling may create significant negative impact on developing countries indirectly, according to a Ficci statement. Canada had already filed a case against France for prohibiting import of asbestos on health grounds.
"While no one disputes the health hazards posed by the use of asbestos, what is at stake in this case are the fundamental principals of WTO which have often been interpreted to make adjustments for developed countries," Ficci president Chirayu Amin said.
