Mumbai: Syntel India, a subsidiary of the $165 million Syntel Inc, proposes to develop Talawade facility near Pune as a hub to deliver technology solutions to South East Asia, Europe and Australia. Syntel's service offerings include application management, ERP package implementation, e-business solutions, data warehousing services and customer relationship management.Syntel India director Sanjay Chheda told eFE that the company would set up a software development campus at the Talawade information technology and software park of the state-run Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) with an investment of Rs 2.4 billion. The campus, which would be spread over 40 acres, would be completed in three phases in five years.
Mr Chheda, before leaving for the US, said that the Talawade campus would be developed on the lines of IT majors such as Intel, Sun, Microsoft, Cisco, Compaq. "My visit to US is mainly to see the complexes of these players and try to pick up best features of it which can be taken up during the development of Talawade campus," he added.
According to Mr Chheda, the first phase of the development would entail an investment of Rs 650 million and house more than 1,500 software professionals. The first phase is expected to be complete by March 2002. "The completion of the first phase is planned along the lines of an international development campus seen in the US, complete with the latest infrastructure such as state-of-the-art training, library, recreation, health club, swimming pool, executive suites for overnight stay, food courts and restaurants," he added.
Mr Chheda said that the second phase would involve an investment of about Rs 850 million and house 3,000 IT professionals. The third phase would entail an investment of Rs 900 million would add further capacity of 3,500 IT professionals.
"The entire funding would be done through internal accruals only," Mr Chheda said.
Mr Chheda said that the company would form a joint venture with its clients to develop the "co-partnership centres" at the Talawade park. "By co-partnership centres, we mean that the entire building will be dedicated for a particular client with its logo atop the centre," he added.
Mr Chheda said that Syntel's clients include Ford, General Motors, Daimler Chrysler, Merrill Lynch, AIG, American Express, AOL. The company has partnership with Oracle, TIBCO, Aspect Communications, BroadVision, Pointcross.
